Quiet Desperation

Wind-blown tree & Blue Sky

Quiet desperation …

it’s that sensation

that reveals itself

about this time every year,

the last bell rung;

a time of liberation and retreat,

but

knowing that tomorrow

and tomorrow

and tomorrow

will no longer creep in the same petty pace

from day to day

and the days ahead

must seek other means

of fulfillment,

breaking free from the tyranny of routine

is also breaking away

from the secure and dependable,

however mundane,

into the yet uninvented —

the lonely indecision

accompanying

the pregnancy

of possibility
